Hiroshi Sugimoto

Light as horizon

Hiroshi Sugimoto is a Japanese photographer whose work examines the relationship between time, light, and memory. His “Seascapes” capture horizon lines in long exposures; “Theaters” record entire films as single frames of radiant white screens; and “Dioramas” reveal the uncanny tension between representation and reality.

Sugimoto also produces architecture, sculpture, and optical experiments that extend his inquiry into seeing.
