BMPT designates a group of artists who worked with fixed procedures, repeated motifs, and predetermined formats to remove personal decision-making from painting. Each member developed a singular visual operation, repeated consistently to foreground system over expression. Painting functioned as an execution of rules rather than a site of invention.
