Light as mass

De Wain Valentine

dee-wayne val-en-tyne

Valentine built a world where resin carried gravity.

His translucent columns and discs compress atmosphere into solid form — clarity given weight.

Each polished surface holds the horizon like liquid architecture.

In his world, light behaves as substance: perception fixed into monument.

How does translucency alter mass here?
This is some text inside of a div block.

In De Wain Valentine’s work, mass is fully retained while visual certainty is disrupted. Cast resin forms hold their volume completely, yet light moves through them, softening edges and suspending depth.

Surface polish removes evidence of making. Boundaries are not erased but become difficult to locate, as internal light compresses space rather than reflecting off it.

The work does not dematerialize form. It reconditions how mass is perceived, holding weight while denying opacity.
