The works in this volume do not meet the viewer on neutral ground. Through wound, garment, desire, body, distance, and equivalence, they build the position from which they will be seen.
The body is not simply shown, dressed, addressed, or observed. It is placed: before wound, inside protection, at the edge of desire, through architectural passage, across distance, or within a system of equivalence. Each essay follows a work that makes the viewer’s position before the viewer can claim it as their own.
